I presume it's something to do with what theme you're using. Like you, I don't see that switch link at all, though apparently you do see the new style if you're logged out.
Thankfully, it seems major points of contention that some are raising are indeed going to be addressed, such as an option to disable infinite scrolling, which apparently causes some systems a measure of indigestion.
