Desperately sad news indeed, but, as you note, at least the end was peaceful. All so quick, but I suppose cancers can be like that - I'm reminded of Iain Banks, gone within a couple weeks of his diagnosis.
I clearly remember getting that call myself. Probably not something I'll ever forget, as we'd been somewhat hopeful that he'd managed to overcome the worst, and we might be able to look forward to greeting him back in his own home again.
