Just thinking a bit more about the last post, and part of the problem as I see it is that there just isn't aren't many things that interest me. I don't like sporting stuff, I don't like drinking, I'm not wonderfully keen on shopping, and I'm scared of large groups of people. I appear to be a lost cause....

... which has given me a strange idea.

Welcome to Entei-rah's Telethon 2004
(Okay, so it's not strictly a Telethon in that it isn't on TV, but that's not important)

The idea is to kindly 'donate a hobby'. At the least, just a single word suggestion in a comment, or you could even say a little about it if you're feeling especially generous. =;) The more hobbies raised, the more chance of helping poor disadvantaged outcasts find something to do for the summer before they lose their sanity completely. Please give generously. Thank you! =:)

You mentioned that you like cycling, right?...

GO ON LONG BIKE RIDES. That's the sort of hobby that can kill entire DAYS, haha. Honestly, try it on some easy roads near your house first, then try to extend your radius farther and farther. I don't doubt you'll be surprised by just how far you can go.

Or just go for long walks, if you don't feel like biking. Take your dog around the block, bring him back home again, and keep on walking.

Alternatively, you can read! Read the Redwall series, if you haven't already. Read Tailchaser's Song, if you haven't done that already. Hell, just go to the library, stand in a random section you're interested in, pick out a random book, and bring it home. I do that a lot, hehe.

Oh! And this idea is sort of a one-off, but you can spend a little while rigging a less precarious way to support your aerial when you move back into a dorm room at the end of the summer.

Just a few suggestions based on things that I've found work well. Hope they helped!

Hmm...

Boardgames!
My favorite pastime. It's you, a boxed game, and one to seven other people. They often collect in clubs at game-stores, or in universities. It's agood way to meet people - reach out and crush them (and vice versa).

Miniatures!
Similar to the last, but you also have to find, clean, and paint the miniatures. Who cares if you're not good - the point is, they are now customized! ;-) And there are some darn nice games out there you can play with them.

Comic Collecting!
I don't do this much, but visual comics are good for those who don't like to read much but love colorful art-like stuff, and stuff that is funny. Can I recommend Dork Tower and Nodwick? For previews you can check out www.Dorktower.com and www.Nodwick.com.

Watch and redo reviews for WD episodes 1-39!
Heh, sorry. I couldn't think of anything else, and it would help chase away boredom... maybe...

I'll toss in a few thoughts too. ^_^

Films - perhaps some extraordinary cinematography from Andrei Tarkovsky, or the buoyantly bizarre worlds of Guy Maddin. Many libraries have quite good DVD sections now, and for far fewer pfennigs (yes, I know they don't exist any longer, but I was on a roll) than the average Lacklustre, or friends' collections can be raided.

Languages - thought about picking up Japanese, maybe?

Sports - well, I'm pretty much with you. ^_^ Perhaps there's the odd one that might be of interest, like playing in a pool, or just playing pool?

Drawing - always more to learn! (Cheap, too) And there's always 3D software to play with, be it commercial works, or free packages such as Blender.

Online social life - maybe you could be a helpstaffer on a MU* of your choice? Or even set one up of your own? (The power, the power!)

Filmmaking - if you have a DV camera, software like Final Cut Pro 4 is around to help turn it into something engaging. Similarly, photography, be it of the neighborhood, or nearby wildlife.

Music - maybe worth seeing what you and some good software could come up with?

Radio - the world can use more eloquent rantings, such as 2's (the Ranting Gryphon). Perhaps you'd feel like laying into worthy subjects with some verve, and letting us hear the results.

Costuming - how about being fully furred RL? Doesn't have to be very expensive, and is an extraordinary amount of fun.

Reporting - there's a lot of news sources around online, and just as much PR to fill it. Maybe there are stories you'd like to research, or popular figures or articles worthy of debunking.

I'd say cooking, but I know that's a non-starter. ^_^ (Surprise us!)

Um... I don't suppose "running away from onions" would be any use to you? =;P

Not with a bit of lateral thinking, it wouldn't. You see, they'd be throwing the onions at you, and so you could duck them. The onions would then be behind you, and so running away from them would take you towards the thrower! =:P

Shall we test it, then? =>:-) *Swings onions in random directions*

No, Entei-rah, don't run from the onions! I'm sure it wouldn't be any good - after all, we're all surrounded by onions, and it would be hard to know where to run. =:-P Although you could try growing onions. =;-)> Seriously, how about trying..er...modelling (the plasticine sort, I mean!), and then you could practise making hrair model bunnies. =:-)

I'm going to recommend karate. Exercise your mind, body and spirit in one nifty package, and never be afraid to walk down a dark street again!

In the less energetic corner, I'm heavily into the two RPGs-by-email I'm involved in.

Well, I've been going to karate for two years and I've just reached the stage where I can walk into the dojo with confidence and greet everyone by name. I'm not awfully good at the whole roomful-o-strangers thing myself.

I have found the karate has helped my self-confidence a great deal, though; in the beginning, if I cocked up a move I wanted to crawl away and die, but now I can laugh, apologise and carry on.
