I don't know what's suddenly happened, but there's been an explosion in the number of cold calling coming through to this phonenumber in the last few months. If they can't get through, they're even leaving their rubbish on BT 1571. So far we've been the lucky winners of countless competitions, as well as having no fewer than 3 offers for fitted kitchens. The highlight had to be the call the other day, certainly sounding like it was coming from a foreign call centre somewhere, in which the guy proudly proclaimed, "Hello. My name is... *pause* Dwayne and I work for... *pause* Orange."

I could understood if one of us had filled something in and the details had been sold, but this stuff has been targeted at all 3 of us. I'm not even supposed to be registered at this address any more. =:S

I am just about to have a go at registering the number with the Telephone Preference Service to see if that helps, although I have a feeling a good number of these are bypassing the system anyway. We shall see.

I am registered with the telephone preference service. Its great. Has not stopped it completely, but it HAS cut back on the volume of unwated calls.

Well, I've registered now. Obviously it still takes about a month for the registration to start working, but I'm hopeful it'll help. =:)

I concur with Avon; give the TPS a go. At least then you can (correctly) tell unsolicited callers that they're breaking the law.

*nods* That's the plan. Well, it was free to register anyway, so at the very least it can't hurt to try. =:)

Well, if you still get *some* annoying calls, you can always do what the Chief Rabbit did a few years ago; record an "interesting" answer-phone message, i.e. (in broad West Country accent): "Yur, hallo. I'm afraid I'm not here at the moment... Well, probably I am, but I just don't want to come to the phone. If you'd like to leave a message I might get back to you... If not, well, you win some, you lose some. Byeeee!" That was just one of many; a different one considerably confused the local library. =:-P *Lies down and takes calming breaths*

Well, we don't even have an answer phone anymore. We used to, but it was such horrible quality when playing back that we decided to just get rid of it and use BT's 1571 service instead, which doesn't let you customise the outgoing message.

Mind you, I do set interesting answer messages on my phone. Anyone looking for someone called 'Terence' is going to think they have the wrong number. =:P
