LJ Comment Notifications
Mar. 8th, 2011 10:39 amI know a few folks have mentioned delays and missing email notifications from Livejournal recently. Well mine are coming through on time, but one thing I have spotted is that they're coming through with '[SPAM]' flags in the subject. It could be completely coincidental, but this might be connected.
Having that in the subject in my setup means that one of several blacklists (Spamhaus if you're interested) has identified LJ's outbound IP as being a spammer, for whatever reason. I have my mailserver set up to do nothing but add 'spam' to the subject line for a single blacklist match as I know these things do get a lot of false positives (it only begins to action on multiple lists matching), however I also know that a lot of the bigger providers can be a lot more trigger happy. This could explain why there's been some delays or missing email depending on who you're with. The good news is usually these false positives vanish from blacklists again after a week or two so if it is related it should be back to normal soon.
