A silly quirk my Sony K800 seems to have developed since I flashed the firmware to unlock it.

Now when I'm travelling around the country with the Vodafone sim in, it tells me which land area code I'm currently in.

I can of course think of no use whatsoever for this feature.

(Apparently I just passed from 01757 to 01302. Anyone want to play the fun game of pinpoint where I was in the UK at this moment? :P)

Selby (N Yorks) and Doncaster, well cheated, it would be clueless without the phonebook or the internet.
The other hand, it would be useful to phone local area, let say order a pizza!

Vodafone has always had that feature, something that I missed when I moved to Orange. Then again I've been thinking on moving from one to another provider on mobile. Probably be still PAYG though as you always change back again if you don't like it.

But yeah, Vodafone had that even in the analogue mobile days.

It's called Cell Broadcast, you can turn it off in the settings :)

It was designed to allow the government to go, "OMG NUCLAR WAR IZ ERE!" to you're mobile so you knew to duck and cover :)
