Sep. 7th, 2008 11:20 pm'Fun' events for today:-
Having to practically destroy a blocked up fireplace to release a bird which has been trapped there for a few days. Yes, in another bodge job by the landlord, they sealed up the old fireplaces, but didn't cover the actual chimneys with anything protective. After some breaking in, a rather bedraggled and dazed pigeon was released (and it actually had to be lifted out as it couldn't even open its eyes to see it could move). We have done all we could for it, giving it water, and food, before leaving it in my room for several hours with an open window in the hope it would recover enough to move. After no real response other than it standing their dazed and turning around, we tried to take it to the outside. There it seemed to perk up with the rain, even trying to use its wings, but not having much luck (had it not perked up at this point, the decision had been taken to put it out of its misery, not a job I was having to do thankfully). Still, it ended the night by crawling into a bush where we presume it'll either manage to recover enough to fly again or pass away tonight. It feels really bad not being able to do something, even for a pigeon which is traditionally scowled at for being nothing but a mad vermin carrier of disease. I hope tomorrow will be brighter...
EDIT: Sadly no joy. As I feared would happen, with no ability to fly, it looks like one of the million cats round here got to it. :(
