It took me ages to work out why loading my friends page on LJ now sends the Acer processor fan off on a mad spree... then eventually I tracked it down to all those embedded Youtube videos on the page. Another great feature of web 2.0! =:D

Set it up to hide those things unless you click on them, how I did it and it goes much faster.

A lot of youtube stuff on a page slows down my dual core AMD 3ghz processor so I don't know how much it would've with your cheapo laptop. XD

Heh, this was actually one of their expensive laptops. Which is probably where I went wrong, as it sounds like Acer only manage to make their cheapo ones work reliably. =;) It doesn't actually overload the processor too much, but even more than 10-20% for a sustained period is enough to kick the fans into overdrive! =:P
