I finally had to visit the dentist last week for the first time in more years than I recall. I don't actually fear dentists like a lot of people, it's just that I've generally held off registering as I always expect to be moving address and don't want to have to keep reregistering (same reason I'm still registered at Durham for the doctors). However a few weeks back I had a pretty horrid sleepless night of pain in a tooth I broke a good few years back (September 2005 for those who know me well) but never got looked at and this pushed me to get the checkup last week. I am now booked in for root canal and some minor other bits on the 10th May, which should be fun.

The only annoying thing is that the prodding during the checkup the other day must have stirred up the pain which had gone between that night and the checkup itself, and whilst it didn't start hurting until the following day, it's been getting steadily worse over the weekend with no combinations of some pretty strong painkillers working. Touchwood after a few days though I've found a gel containing local anaesthetic and that seems to be doing the trick, but the sooner this is all sorted properly the better!

Anbesol, by any chance? I've found that to work quite well on a variety of mouth pains. Hopefully after the 10th it won't be an issue, though. =:)

Oh ouchies! *Hugs* I remember trying to numb the pain from that abcess I had 4 years ago, but most painkillers are utterly useless. Co-codamol tablets worked, but not really for all that long, and you have to be careful with those anyway due to the (slight) risk of addiction. Damn... I hope they can get that sorted out as smoothly as possible. The problem is that dentists do like prodding away at the actual problem area, and that is always guaranteed to make it worse! :P

One of my fillings fell out in February. Got an emergeny appointment and a temporary filling- which itself went away after onl a week. Had to wait 5 weeks for an appointment, and it hurt like hell every time I ate something...
