Despite the repeated warnings from what seems like everyone about how it would probably mess up my system and spell the end of the world as we know it, I went ahead and installed Service Pack 2 for Windows XP yesterday. It took a while, as you're talking 100mb over a 56k connection, but it got there in the end. So far I'm guessing I must be one of the lucky ones, as I haven't encountered a single problem. Windows still runs perfectly, as does all the software installed that I've tried so far. No doubt I'll find a problem eventually, but as of now I'm happy with it. =:) The firewall works (or at least it blocked something earlier) and Media Player 9 works fine (better than it did when I installed it standalone a while back). I haven't tried the pop-up blocking in Internet Explorer, mainly because I use Mozilla all the time, but I did notice when casually glancing in Outlook Express to check my Hotmail account that OE now doesn't automatically download the images in HTML emails. Yay, no more need to hit 'work offline' all the time when opening them! =:)

Ooo! Actually, the fact that it hasn't caused you any problems (*touches wood*) is greatly encouraging me to download it now instead of waiting ages to get it from somewhere else. Er...how long did it take to download, exactly? =;-)

That sounds about right. I used to reckon on about 15MB/hour on dialup, taking into account the two-hour session limits, and actually trying to use the link for other things at the same time, foolishly enough. ^_^

(Seems to've been a good time for OS tweakage, ne?)

I installed the Service Pack on both my computers as well, and I haven't run into any problems either. =:)

Ah, this is encouraging news, indeed! Think I should try installing it? My system is completely up-to-date except for SP 2. Dad and I are both scared to go ahead and install it, though he did download it with his fast connection at work and bring it home on a CD. We just don't want to blow the computer up or break any of our programs, y'know? =:O
